Installing Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection antivirus on Windows (8, 7, Vista, XP)

These instructions assume the following:

  1. You have an administrative account on the computer.
  2. The computer is owned by FSU or was purchased with FSU funds (grant, budget, etc).
  3. You are downloading from the KIN or Unit I buildings. Else contact computer-support@bio.fsu.edu for the download userid and password.
  4. You are using Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista or XP.

Uninstall any previous antivirus

Most FSU computers will have McAfee antivirus installed. This, or other antivirus, needs to be uninstalled first.

IMPORTANT: Order matters on the uninstalls below. Uninstall them in the order listed.

  • Click Start->Control Panel. Change "View by" to "Small icons" (top right of control panel window). Click the "Programs and Features" control panel.
  • Uninstall McAfee VirusScan Antispyware Module (if installed).
  • Uninstall McAfee VirusScan Enterprise.
  • Uninstall McAfee Agent.
  • Reboot your computer.


Downloading and installing Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection

  • Download scepinstall.exe to your computer.
  • Double click the scepinstall.exe to start the installation.
  • The UAC dialog may appear, click "Yes" or "Run".
  • The System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection dialog opens, click "Next", click "I accept".
  • In the radio dialog select "I do not want to join...", click "Next", "Next", "Install", "Finish".
  • Wait for the automatic update to complete and the automatic scan to start.

Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection is now installed.


Configuring Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection

Note: You can configure Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection while the automatic scan is under way.

  • In the System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection dialog click the "Settings" tab.
  • Click the "Default Actions" left side menu item.
  • Change all 4 alert levels to "Remove", click "Save changes". Click "Yes" if the UAC dialog appears.
  • Click the "Advanced" left side menu item. Put a check in "Scan removable drives". Click "Save changes". Click "Yes" if the UAC dialog appears.

Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection is now configured.
