Installing McAfee Enterprise 8.8 Download McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 Installer . Note this is for FSU computers only. For home computers we recommend Microsoft Security Essentials, which is free for home use. Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs, remove all antivirus products. For Department of Biological Science computer this will most likely be "McAfee VirusScan Enterprise". Reboot the computer. Unzip the Mcafee 8.8 installer, double click SetupVSE.exe Click Next, Change "License expiry type" to "Perpetual", select "I accept the terms in the license agreement", click OK button. Leave "Typical" selected, Click "Next", Leave "Standard Protection" selected, click "Next", click "Install". On the "McAfee VirusScan Enterprise setup has completed successfully" screen deselect "Run On-Demand Scan", click "Finish" button. After update completes reboot computer. Version 8.8 has no patches so no furthur installations are required. Configuring McAfee Enterprise 8.8 Go to Start->Program Files->McAfee->VirusScan Console, the VirusScan console starts. Right click "On-Access Scanner" and choose "Properties". Click Messages tab, check "Delete files", Highlight "All Processes" icon, click "Scan Items" tab, check "On network drives", click "OK" button. Close the VirusScan Console window by click the [X] button in top right of VirusScan Console window. Configuring Auto Update for McAfee Enterprise 8.8 Go to Start->Program Files->McAfee->VirusScan Console, the VirusScan console starts.  In VirusScan Console double click "Autoupdate" icon, click the "Schedule" button, click the "Schedule" tab.  Change "Start Time" to "5:00AM", change randomization to 15 minutes (zero hours), click "Advanced" tab, check "Repeat Task" checkbox, change "Until" from "Time" to "Duration", change hours to "24", change minutes to "0", click "OK" button.   In VirusScan Console click Tools->Edit AutoUpdate Repository List, click the "Add" button, in Repository description box type "BiologyHTTP", in the "URL:" box type "www.bio.fsu.edu/complabs/pub/CommonUpdater", click the "OK" button. Highlight the new "BiologyHTTP" repository and click the "Move up" button until "BiologyHTTP" is at the top, click the "OK" button.     Test autoupdate by right clicking AutoUpdate icon and choose "Start". Watch the McAfee AutoUpdate window for errors. At the end you should see "Update Finished". Wait for the McAfee Autoupdate window to close or click "Close". In the VirusScan Console window "AutoUpdate Last Result" should now say "The Update succeeded <date>". Close the VirusScan Console window by click the [X] button in top right of VirusScan Console window. Updating McAfee Enterprise 8.8 The quickest way to update the virus definitions is simply to right click the shield icon and select 'Update Now...'. Alternatively download latest sdatXXXX.exe file from https://www.bio.fsu.edu/complabs/pub and double click to install. |
