Using HP ScanJet 3970 Scanner

-- These directions assume you are going to save to the Desktop. You can also save to folders if you know how to navigate on a PC

 

  1. Start the PC attached to the scanner. Log in if asked to.

  2. Select Start, and Chose Applications.

  3. Choose the item marked HP PrecisionScan Pro in the Aplications catagory.

  4. HP PrecisionScan Pro starts.

  5. Open scanner lid and place item to be scanned face down on the glass with the top left corner against the top left corner of the glass.

  6. Click on the button marked “New Scan” in the HP PrecisionScan Pro application. Your image should appear in the preview window.

  7. Click the “Scan to” button.
  8. In the preview window, using the mouse, drag a box around the exact area you wish to scan. If you want to zoom in click the Zoom button after dragging a square around the area you wish to zoom in on.
  9. Click the “Scan” button
  10. Click the Final button. The SaveFileAs dialog box appears. Click the Desktop button (this causes your file to be saved to the desktop). Type in a file name and click the OK button. An icon representing your file should appear on the desktop.

If you wish to convert your file to another format such as gif or Jpeg follow these instructions.

  1. If using Photoshop and want to convert to a gif format then do the following:

    1. Choose File->Open, and the Open dialog box appears.

    2. Click on the name of the file that you want to convert to a gif extension one time, and then click the open button.

    3. Chose File-> Export->gif.

    4. When the Save dialog box appears click the Save Button.

    5. Photoshop automatically converts the defualt extension *.psp to *.gif.

  2. To change convert to any other format just follow the instructions for then:

    1. Choose File->Open, and the Open dialog box appears.

    2. Click on the name of the file that you want to convert to a gif extension one time, and then click the open button.

    3. Choose File-> SaveAs.

    4. When the Save dialog box appears type in the name you wish to save your file.

    5. Then at the bottom of the dialog box chose your desired format from the drop down box.

    6. Then click the Save button.

  3. If using PaintShop Pro do the follow the instructions a-f right above
