The Electronics Shop staff uses a variety of electronic diagnostic equipment to trouble-shoot and repair scientific equipment and computers. They are available for designing new or modifying old research equipment and for consulting on research problems.

The FSU Herbarium contains about 195,000 dried specimens of vascular plants (ferns, conifers, and flowering plants). The collection is worldwide in scope but heavily emphasizes the native flora of Florida and neighboring regions. Functions of the herbarium are teaching (specimens are used to illustrate various taxonomic groups in advanced botany courses on campus), research (resident botanists use the herbarium for critical study of selected groups for taxonomic monographs or ecological investigations, and specimens are loaned to scientists at other institutions throughout the world for similar studies), and service (the collection is used to help identify specimens submitted by state agencies, other biologists, and interested citizens, and it also provides data on distribution of endangered species, poisonous plants, weeds,  and other plants of concern for various users). MACHINE SHOP

Using standard machine equipment such as lathes, milling machines, drill press, and band saw, the machine shop staff design and build complex, original research equipment, as well as repairing departmental instruments and equipment.

The photo lab is available to faculty and graduate students for research photographic needs. State-of-the-art equipment is used to produce publication-ready graphics and slides. The Biological Science stockroom is located in the King Life Sciences Building (open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily). Stockroom inventory includes office and laboratory supplies for purchase by department members. Other FSU departments also may purchase items through interdepartmental requisitions.
