Science careers almost always now require practitioners to be somewhat
facile with computers, thus, all participants receive instruction in computer
science. This computer-science instruction also employs cooperative-group
learning. Two computer-science courses (whose level of instruction varies with the background of the student) are designed
specifically for our students. Students with solid programming knowledge
(BASIC, FORTRAN) are placed in a course in Turbo Pascal language and algorithm
development, with additional experiences in computer graphics, C/C++ language,
and UNIX. Students with little or no programming knowledge are placed in
an introductory course in computer applications. The applications are those
most frequently used in research laboratories.
