Chartfield Descriptions:

The Biology Department utilizes both Chartfield 1 and Chartfield 2. Generally, Chartfield 1 is a broad category whereas Chartfield 2 is a subcategory of Chartfield 1.
For example, if Chartfield 1 is "SET UP", Chartfield 2 will be the faculty member's name.
For example, if Chartfield 1 is "TCH", Chartfield 2 will be the course number.

Some chartfields require a description. Regularly, the determining factor for a particular chartfield falls to budget considerations. For example, if the computing staff purchases a monitor for the greenhouse, the greenhouse code should be used, not the computing code. Although it is a piece of computing equipment, the cost is relative to the cost of running and operating the greenhouse.

TCH MAI: Used for items mainly to supply the classrooms, although strictly not considered teaching. These would include dry erase markers, laser pointers, and bulbs for projectors.

TCH: For supplies directly related to teaching. Namely, these are usually items that students handle directly or items that are directly related to a teaching concept. Can include models and other items usually not permitted on the teaching budget (but are necessary for instruction anyway).

TRV: General travel. Usually to be avoided for two reasons: 1. There is likely a more specific code. 2. Travel charges are already coded under a budgetary travel code.

TRVCOLL: Travel associated with the weekly colloquium.

TRVFAC: Travel for faculty, usually approved travel on an E&G funded budget.

GRADTRAVEL: Travel for graduate students. Regularly accompanied by matching funds from COGS.
