2004 in the FSU Biological Science History project

2004 In the Department of Biological Science at Florida State University (updated 18 Feb 05)

On Monday, 30 August 2004, the "kick-off" meeting took place at which planning officially began for the new Life Sciences Building, scheduled to replace Conradi Building in fall of 2007. All members of the Department of Biological Science were invited, and those in attendance spent the entire afternoon, together with members of the architectural firm Elliott Marshall Innes of Tallahassee and and lab planning firm Lord Aeck Sargent (LAS) of Atlanta, brainstorming about what such a building should include.

The inaugural J. Herbert Taylor Lecture in Genetics was presented 12 October 2004 by Dr. Mary C. Mullins of the University of Pennsylvania (view the brochure). Herb Taylor retired from the department in 1990 and died in 1998. The lecture series named for him was endowed with funds contributed by his colleagues, friends, and family.
