The bouquet is shown for zygotene and pachytene in this example.
The bouquet is invariably found at zygotene, and between different species, the bouquet is variably associated with late leptotene and pachytene.

We've definded the precise temporal relationship in maize between the bouquet stage (telomere clustering stage) and the substages of synapsis (unsynapsed at leptotene; synapsing at zygotene, synapsed at pachytene).
