Student Information

  • The Department offers both Ph.D. and MS. degrees in Biological Science.
  • All students admitted to the program are offered full financial support.
  • Research specializations ranging from ecology and evolution to molecular and cellular biology are available for graduate study.
  • Over 40 faculty and 100 graduate students in the program.

The graduate program is divided into three areas, Cell and Molecular Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Neuroscience. Before applying students should carefully examine the research specializations of the faculty in their area of interest to identify faculty labs in which they would like to study. In our admission process we make it a priority to match prospective graduate students with potential faculty mentors. In addition to applying, students are encouraged to contact faculty directly.

Application Priority Deadlines:

December 15 for Admission the Following Fall Semester. We begin reviewing applications in late December and students wishing to be considered for University Fellowships should complete their applications by December 15. All applications that are complete by January 15 will still receive full consideration for admission.

Normally we only admit students to begin the program in the fall semester. Under exceptional circumstances a student may be considered for spring admission, in this case the student must contact the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies directly (bates@bio.fsu.edu).

Note: The on-line application will be available in September. The Office of Admissions will not accept an application for fall prior to September.
