Mote Endowment

The William R. and Lenore Mote Endowment

Dr. William R. Mote (1906-2000), founder of the Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, FL, established an endowment at Florida State University in November of 1994 as one way that he could give back to the environment for all the joy that it brought him over the course of his life. The endowment, named in honor of Dr. Mote and his wife, Lenore, allows scientist in the Department of Biological Science to expand their ecological focus, providing new research opportunities for faculty and new educational experiences for students. The primary goal is to further the understanding, conservation, and management of living marine resources.

The endowment supports eminent and visiting scholar positions, an international symposium on cutting-edge marine ecological issues, research assistantships for graduate students, and research working groups on targeted ecological and evolutionary questions in the marine environment.
