Bionanotechnology has new face, world-class future at Florida State

"Imagine the marriage of hard metals or semiconductors to soft organic or biological products. Picture the strange, wonderful offspring - hybrid materials never conceived by Mother Nature."

Webinar: Nanoscale Biomaterials Deposition: Learning to speak the language of biology

"Being a major structural and functional component of biological membranes, phospholipids are compatible with the vast array of molecular resources provided by nature. Incorporation of biofunctional lipids into the ink allows the subcellular patterning of multiple proteins under the area of a single cell. Furthermore, the capability of fabricating arbitrary nanopatterns with innately biofunctional lipids opens new possibilities in the fabrication of nanostructured biosensor elements."

Research Highlight

"Lyotropic optical diffraction gratings composed of biofunctional lipid multilayers with controllable heights between ~5 and 100nm can be fabricated by lipid dip-pen nanolithography. Multiple materials can be simultaneously written into arbitrary patterns on pre-structured surfaces to generate complex structures and devices, allowing nanostructures to be interfaced by combinations of top-down and bottom-up fabrication methods."
