In 1994, the U.S. Geographic Names Commission named the "Friedmann Valley" (Southern Victoria Land, Antarctica) in honor of Professor E. Imre Friedmann .

Professor David L. Balkwill received the Carski Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award from the American Society for Microbiology and the American Academy of Microbiology
Professor David L. Balkwill received an FSU Teaching Incentive Program Award
Professor Donald L. D. Caspar received a Guggenheim Fellowship and was elected to the National Academy of Sciences of the USA.
Professor William F. Herrnkind received the President's Continuing Education Award.
Professor Kurt G. Hofer was named a Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor.
