Professors A. Gib DeBusk, Robert B. Short, and J. Herbert Taylor were honored at a joint retirement party at the home of Professor Lawrence G. Abele, chairman of the department.

Professor Kurt G. Hofer received the Gold Key Faculty Award from FSU's Student Honor Society, received the FSU Distinguished Teaching Award, and became a charter member of the President's Council on Excellence in Higher Education.
Professor Donald R. Strong received the Albert W. Boyce Award in Entomology from the University of California, Riverside.
Professor Theodore P. Williams received a College of Arts and Sciences Teaching Excellence Award and an FSU University Teaching Award.
