- Professor Lawrence G. Abele was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
- Professor David M. Quadagno (while still a member of the Department of Movement Science) received FSU's University Teaching Award and the Richard Winzler Award for excellence in teaching from FSU's Program in Medical Sciences.
- Associate Professor George W. Bates received an FSU Developing Scholar Award.
- Professor Ralph W. Yerger received the department's inaugural Loretta C. Ellias Teaching Award.
