On 30 May, Professor Margaret Y. Menzel died. She was a research associate and faculty member in the department from 1955 until her death.
On 10 December, Professor Emerita Ruth Olive Schornherst Breen died. She joined the department of Botany in 1926 and retired from the Department of Biological Science in 1965.
