1956 In the Department of Biological Science at Florida State University (updated 17 Aug 04)

In 1956, the departments of Bacteriology, Botany, Physiology, and Zoology merged to form the Department Biological Science. The new department moved from the History Building (now Williams Building) and Women's Gymnasium (now Montgomery Gym) to the General Classroom Building (now Conradi Building).

Members of the department inaugurated the Beta Beta chapter of the Phi Sigma Society, a national organization devoted to the promotion of research in the biological sciences.

  • Mary Ann Joyner, an undergraduate biology student, and W. D. Reese, a graduate student, received award certificates for their outstanding student performance.
