Configuring Microsoft Outlook to work with ssl/tls pop on bio.fsu.edu

Note: I consider Outlook to be a security hole so these directions are for modifying an existing Outlook installation to work the the new ssl/tls pop on bio.fsu.edu.  If you are setting up email from scratch please use eudora, which you can download here, and instructions for configuring eudora are here.

From the Outlook menu choose Tools->Accounts.  The Internet Accounts dialog appears.

Highlight the "bio.fsu.edu" account and click the "Properties" button.  The bio.fsu.edu Properties dialog appears.

Click the "Advanced" tab.  The advanced options dialog appears.

In the "Incoming mail (POP3)" section put a check in "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)".  This will change the port number to 995 which is correct.

Click the "OK" button.  Click the "Close" button to close the "Internet Accounts" dialog.  You should now be able to retrieve your email.
