Using the Mail program on Mac OS10 to check mail on bio.fsu.edu

Note: We recommend using Eudora 6.1.x for Mac OS 10.x.

The Mail program is built comes preinstalled with Mac OS10.x, and is located in the "Applications" folder.  Versions of the Mail program that came with MacOS10 < v10.2 do not support ssl/tls pop.  You will need to upgrade to at least version 10.2.

Importing email from eudora

The very first time you launch the mail program that comes with OS10, it will prompt you to import your mailboxes
from an alternate program.  If you've been using Eudora, select it by highlighting the button next to it.  You will be prompted to browse for the location of your mail.

Configuring the Mail program

Choose Mail->Preferences from the Mail program menu.  The Accounts dialog box appears.

Click on "Create Account".  The "Account Information" dialog appears.

  • Incoming Mail Server: POP sever, usually bio.fsu.edu
  • User Name: email userid
