Using the Slide Scanner

Scanning Slides and Negatives with the Nikon LS2000 Slide Scanner

  1. The Nikon LS 2000 has to be turned on before the PC is turned on, or the Nikon LS 2000 will not be recognized.
  2. The power switch for the Nikon LS 2000 is located on the top of the Nikon unit. 
  3. If you get an error message when attempting to scan make sure scanner is on and restart computer by choosing Start->Shutdown-> and Restart, from the Start menu.
  4. Log on to the PC with your username and password.
  5. Chose Start-> Applications-> Nikon Scanner.
  6. This is the point where the software will tell you if the device is found or not.
  7. If the Nikon LS 2000 says "No Device Found ", you have to reboot the computer with the slide scanner still on.
  8. Place the slide in the front of the Nikon Scanner by inserting the slide face up, with the left side first.
  9. Hit the preview button. (Which is the blue button)
  10. It may take a few moments for the picture to appear.
  11. Note whether or not you are scanning slides or negatives by choosing positive or negative.

  12. Before you scan:
    1. If scanning the whole image always  eliminate the solid borders around the image.
    2. Then click on the auto contrast button in order to remove any dust or scratches from the slide.
    3. The Auto Contrast won't work properly with the slide border around it.
    4. To select the image without the border or a particular area of the image, simply hold down the left mouse button and drag over the desired area.
    5. If you click the left mouse button inside the square this will allow you to position you square appropriately.
    6. If you want to redo your original selection then simply click outside of the square and re-drag your new selection.
  13. Scan your image or selected portion of your image by clicking on the scan button (green button).
  14. Your image will appear in a separate window.
  15. Saving your image:
    1. Select File-> SaveAs.
    2. Type in title of image.
    3. Select extension by choosing it in the drop down box.
    4. Jpeg is the most popular extension for posting images on the web.

 

To scan negatives with the Nikon LS 2000.

There are two ways that you scan negatives, with the negative adapter or with the slide holder.

          Changing Adapters:

  1. Before you begin make sure that the LED light is not flashing or that the scanner is turnned off.
  2. The negative adapter is the image to the right of the Nikon slide scanner.
  3. To change the slide adapter to the negative adapter, push down on the arrow directly underneath the present adapter and pull out.
  4. Then replace with the negative adapter.

         Scanning negatives with the negative adapter:

  1. To scan negatives simply use the instructions for the slides except insert negatives into the negative adapter.
  2. The adapter auto feeds the strip into the scanner.After your strip of negatives are in, hit the preview button and the first image will appear.
  3. In order to browse through the slides there is a bar that will open once you place your pointer over it. Notice the example below.


  1. Once it opens click and it will give you the option of witch slide to chose from.

Negative Holder

  1. Open the holder from the side.
  2. When placeing your negative strip inside the holder align the breaks of the negatives with the breaks in the holder.
  3. The holder is to be placed in the front of the Slide Adapter NOT the Negative Adapter.
  4. When you finish scanning the first slide, push in the slide extension so that you can proceed to scan the next slide.
  5. When finished scanning remove negative holder from slide adapter.
